Location: Wellington Village, 1100 Wellington Road, Rowville
Time of day: Dinner – Saturday – Delivery
Ordered: Margarita on GF base with tomato paste instead of napoli
Other options: Most pizzas can be accommodated
I will be 100% upfront and say I was a bit iffy about adding this one in. I've ordered their pizza twice, the first time I enquired about their sauce and they were very happy to tell me that they offer tomato paste as an onion and garlic free option, it was perfect and I was singing their praises. The second time when I started ordering I was cut off with "Tomato paste instead? It's on your file!" and I said "YES!" and I was very happy and confident about that, but I am pretty sure I did not receive the tomato paste, the sauce wasn't as thick and I had the most awful bloating and cramping afterwards.
I decided to include it because they do offer it, and when they get it right, it's great, but I don't have full confidence in them and have been a little scared to order from them since.

Location: 1053 Ferntree Gully Road, Ferntree Gully
Time of day: Breakfast – Weekday
Ordered: GF toast with bacon and fried heirloom tomatoes
Other options: Chicken toastie
The GF bread is fantastic here, I actually had to double check that it was GF, for reference, it is the focaccia loaf from the Black Ruby Bakery in Thornbury, the waiter excitedly brought out the loaf to show me and urged me to go there. I'm ashed to say that I haven't been yet, I'm hardly ever out Thornbury way, but when I am, it's definitely on my list of places to go.
The staff were lovely, checked about what the tomatoes were cooked in (onion and garlic free, but lots of lovely fresh herbs that give them a beautiful taste) and they are one of my highest recommended breakfast places.

Location: Knox Ozone, 425 Burwood Highway, Wantirna South
Time of day: Lunch - Friday and Dinner – Saturday
Ordered: Tropical Barra (no mango) and Red Salmon (came with pistachios on top but that was no big deal)
Other options: GF Caesar salad, Porterhouse steak, Reef and beef
No onion no garlic menu available on request and the nogo menu has GF marked, be aware that other FODMAPS are included on this menu and may need to be requested without. I will own up and say that when this place first opened I didn't go for quite a while, the idea is that it's foods from all around the world, and I scoffed to one of my friends as we walked past, "The odds of them getting them all right are pretty slim", but then I was put on the LowFODMAP diet, and suddenly that world included an entire nogo menu, and I ate my words. I highly recommend them.
The Club Hotel
Location: 848 Burwood Hwy, Ferntree Gully
Time of Day: Dinner - Weekend
Ordered: 400g rump with GF chips and salad
Other options: Porterhouse, scotch filet
This is one of those bistros where your only option is a steak. The plus side is that I've been here several times as it seems to be "the birthday destination" for my extended family, and I've never had a badly cooked steak here. As a rare steak eater I find I often get served mediums. Remember to specify gluten free chips, their regular chips have a flour coating, but they have a shoestring available for those who are wheat-free.

The Peddler Cafe
Location: 295b Springfield Road, Nunawading
Time of day: Lunch - Weekend
Ordered: GF toast with prosciutto, spinach, feta and potato rosti
Other options: (as sides): Bacon, smoked salmon, egg, roasted tomato, hollandaise
Go here hungry, they like to feed. You may notice that my plate has three slices of gluten free toast on it, that's not a request, that's what they give you. This wasn't unique to the GF option either, I went with my Mum who has no dietary requirements and her portion was quite large too. They also have a GF potato rosti which was delicious and very crispy. Prosciutto was a nice change to the regular bacon/salmon offerings (but they were still available) and I'm not sure which feta they use, but if it weren't so busy I would have asked because it was lovely.
